In a world where bigger often seems better, Suzuki is making a compelling case for the smaller and more versatile Suzuki Eeco. Recently, Suzuki Auto South Africa has launched an initiative that underscores the value and practicality of this compact delivery vehicle by putting it directly into the hands of small business owners.

A Helping Hand for Small Businesses
Suzuki’s recent campaign involved delivering the Suzuki Eeco, rent-free, to a selection of small businesses for a three-month trial period. This initiative, driven by recommendations from Suzuki’s brand advocates, aims to demonstrate the Eeco’s real-world utility and effectiveness. Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager at Suzuki Auto South Africa, notes, “We want entrepreneurs to drive the Eeco, see how much they can load and lock up in the loading bay, and test for themselves how frugal the 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine really is.”

Since its launch just over a year ago, the Suzuki Eeco has been positioned as an unbeatable value proposition. Priced at R212 900, it offers a cargo bay measuring 1 620 mm in length and 1 300 mm in width—ideal for standard pallets—and can carry up to 615 kg of cargo. Underneath its practical exterior, the Eeco features a proven 1.2-litre K12N petrol engine, delivering 59 kW and 104 Nm to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission.

Features and Specifications
Despite its competitive price, the Suzuki Eeco does not skimp on features. It comes equipped with air conditioning, dual front airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) with electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), electronic stability control (ESP) with traction control (TC), and pre-wiring for a single-DIN radio. Additionally, the Eeco includes dual sliding side doors and a large rear door for ease of loading and unloading.

The #VanLife Campaign: Turning the Eeco into a Mobile Home
To showcase the Eeco’s versatility, Suzuki embarked on the #VanLife campaign, transforming the Eeco into a fully functional camper van. This innovative project involved creative designers and technical suppliers who fitted the Eeco with a range of home-like features. These include a convertible smart bed, ample storage with large below-floor drawers, and even a basin with washing facilities. A collapsible veranda extends the living space, offering shade and shelter.

Carpenter explains the inspiration behind the campaign: “We were motivated by the social media trend of converting large panel vans into mobile homes. Our goal was to adapt this concept to a compact and affordable panel van, proving that you don’t need a hefty budget to enjoy the nomadic lifestyle.”

The campaign also drew inspiration from van conversion sub-cultures in countries like India and Japan, where enthusiasts modify Suzuki vans into everything from mobile discos to off-road vehicles. This global perspective highlights the Eeco’s adaptability and potential for various uses.

Future Endeavors: Showcasing at Cashbuild
As the Eeco #VanLife concept travels across South Africa, Suzuki is also showcasing the Eeco and its sibling, the Super Carry, at Cashbuild stores nationwide. Partnering with Cashbuild, a leading retailer of building materials, Suzuki aims to demonstrate how these vehicles can integrate seamlessly into the lives of cash-conscious customers and small businesses.

Carpenter adds, “We are excited to partner with Cashbuild and invite their customers to experience our workhorses firsthand. We want to show how the Eeco and Super Carry can be valuable assets for their businesses.”
