Johannesburg – Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) has once again asserted its dominance in the local automotive landscape, closing November with a commanding 13 576 new vehicle sales. This performance lifted the brand’s overall market share to 24.7%, an uptick from October’s 24.2%, reinforcing Toyota’s position as the country’s most trusted and consistently resilient vehicle manufacturer.
The strong month aligns with naamsa’s latest report, which highlighted a noteworthy rebound in the domestic market. Total new vehicle sales in November 2025 reached 54 896 units — a substantial gain of 6 113 units (+12.5%) compared to November 2024. Passenger cars remain the backbone of consumer demand with 39 158 units sold, while the light commercial vehicle segment — including bakkies and minibuses — delivered 13 048 units. Medium trucks tallied 698 units, and heavy trucks reached 1 992 units, echoing familiar mixed segment performance trends.
Toyota Dominates Across Core Segments
Toyota led the market with strength across multiple categories, securing top positions in passenger cars (8 598 units), light commercial vehicles (4 617 units), and medium commercial vehicles (262 units). Four Toyota models featured prominently in the nation’s Top 10 passenger car best-sellers:
- Corolla Cross (1 651 units)
- Starlet (1 619 units)
- Urban Cruiser (1 325 units)
- Starlet Cross (1 085 units)
Lexus also enjoyed renewed momentum in November, posting 90 sales. The NX continued its steady form with 31 units, while the GX surged to 29 units and the ES recorded 12 units, marking a notable uplift for the premium brand.
Hilux Reigns Supreme – Again
With 3 383 units sold and a commanding 25.9% share of its segment, the Toyota Hilux remains South Africa’s unchallenged best-selling bakkie. Its enduring popularity continues to define Toyota’s presence in the LCV segment, strengthening its legacy as the dependable workhorse of both private and commercial buyers.
The Land Cruiser Prado delivered a standout performance, climbing to 335 units — a remarkable leap from the 149 units sold in October. Though the Hiace registered a modest decline at 596 units, the Quantum bus achieved its best year-to-date performance with 162 units sold. Complementing Toyota’s commercial strength, the Hino division contributed 262 units to the November tally.

Robust Fleet Sales and Expanding Support Services
Toyota’s fleet business maintained solid momentum, delivering 3 714 vehicles nationwide to corporate customers. The Toyota Coaster, which saw an increase of 78 units, reaffirmed its relevance as a reliable mobility and tourism solution — a segment that continues to show renewed vitality.
The recent introduction of the Hilux Custom Builds further amplified interest, showcasing Toyota’s commitment to equipping South African businesses with durable, ready-to-work options tailored to real-world applications.
Parts and Exports Fuel Additional Growth
Toyota’s parts division continued to operate at impressive scale, distributing just under 2 million pieces to the domestic market and exporting 314 116 pieces internationally.
TSAM’s export success also climbed in November, with 6 453 vehicles shipped to global markets — a notable jump from October’s 4 436 units.
