From 16 to 23 March 2025, elite cyclists and dedicated amateurs will push themselves to the limit, navigating some of the most demanding terrain South Africa has to offer.

Recognised by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) as hors catégorie—“beyond categorisation”—this race is the pinnacle of professional mountain biking. It all begins with a thrilling prologue on day one, setting the stage for seven grueling days of competition.
One of the most anticipated aspects of this year’s race is the return of the Toyota Tough sections. These specially designed segments of the course will push riders to their limits, challenging even the most seasoned competitors. Each stage promises new and unpredictable obstacles, ensuring that only the toughest will emerge victorious.
Elite Teams Ready to Conquer the Trails

- Outride-Toyota-Songo Team: Three-time Absa Cape Epic champion Matt Beers joins forces with top US mountain biker Keegan Swenson, donning Toyota insignia as they take on the toughest trails.
- Toyota Specialized (Men) Team: Johan van Zyl returns with renewed determination after an early exit last year, teaming up with the highly experienced Travis Stedman, making his Absa Cape Epic debut.
- Toyota Specialized (Women) Team: A powerhouse pairing of six-time World Champion Annika Langvad and 2022 Absa Cape Epic winner Sofia Gomez Villafane. Expect fireworks as they aim for dominance in 2025.
- Songo-Kolisi Foundation Team: Making their Absa Cape Epic debut, this team embodies the values of perseverance and inspiration. Riders Cherise Willeit and Ila Stow, both with three previous appearances, will race with heart and determination.
- Toyota Gazoo Racing Mixed Team: After securing second place in 2023 and clinching victory in 2024, Riaan Weideman and Samantha Sanders are back to defend their title and hold onto the prestigious Green Leader Jersey.
