Suzuki Auto South Africa has made history by surpassing the 50,000 sales mark for the first time ever in its history. The company’s final sales numbers for the fiscal year spanning April 2023 to March 2024 were recently disclosed, revealing that an impressive 51,969 new Suzuki vehicles were purchased during the 12-month period. This achievement marks a significant milestone, setting a new record in the company’s sales history.
Henno Havenga, the General Manager of Sales and Marketing at Suzuki Auto South Africa, expressed immense satisfaction with this accomplishment. He recalled how the company narrowly missed this milestone in the previous financial year with sales totaling 49,576 vehicles, making this year’s breakthrough even more gratifying.
The fiscal year was a period of notable activity for Suzuki, marked by the launch of several new models, including the all-new Grand Vitara, Suzuki’s first hybrid model, and the Suzuki Eeco panel van at the beginning of the fiscal year. The addition of models like the Fronx and XL6 in August, along with the five-door Jimny in November, further expanded the brand’s lineup. A highlight of the year was the setting of a new Guinness World Record at Suzuki Auto South Africa’s Jimny Gathering, where 787 Jimny vehicles participated in the largest simultaneous vehicle light switch-on.

Suzuki also achieved multiple monthly sales records during the year, including selling its 200,000th vehicle in South Africa in July 2023, surpassing 5,000 monthly sales for the first time in January with 5,249 vehicles sold, and setting a dealership record with 4,488 vehicle sales in February.
Amid a challenging market environment with declining new vehicle sales and increasing economic pressures, Suzuki has continued to grow its sales and market share. The company attributes its success to its commitment to offering South Africans affordable, reliable, and cost-effective vehicles, which have remained popular despite adverse market conditions.
In parallel, Suzuki Auto South Africa celebrated a production milestone with its Indian counterpart, Maruti Suzuki, which reached a cumulative production figure of 30 million units by the end of March 2024. This achievement made India the fastest country to reach this milestone within the Suzuki family, a testament to Suzuki’s popularity and manufacturing prowess in India. Many of the models produced in India, such as the new Fronx, XL6, and Baleno, are exported globally, including to South Africa, underscoring the symbiotic relationship between Suzuki’s operations in these markets.
This historic sales achievement in South Africa and the production record in India highlight Suzuki’s growing influence and success in the global automotive market, as well as its ability to adapt and thrive in challenging economic conditions.
