Renault Group Welcomes Philippe Krief As New Chief Technology Officer

Effective September 1, 2024, Philippe Krief will assume the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at Renault Group, succeeding Gilles Le Borgne. Tasked with propelling Renault Group to the pinnacle of automotive innovation, Krief’s mission is to develop cutting-edge products and technologies, ensuring the company stays ahead in an era of unparalleled industry transformation.

Bringing a rich background in automotive engineering, Krief will also continue as CEO of Alpine, spearheading crucial engineering advancements in his dual role.

Boulogne-Billancourt, July 18, 2024 – Renault Group is thrilled to announce Philippe Krief’s appointment as Chief Technology Officer, effective September 1. Krief will also maintain his responsibilities within the Alpine brand. He succeeds Gilles Le Borgne, who will transition to a strategic advisory role to the CEO.

Reporting directly to CEO Luca de Meo, Philippe Krief will oversee all engineering activities and resources across Renault Group. He will leverage his extensive expertise, notably his tenure as Director of Engineering at Ferrari, to drive innovation and development within the company.

Krief’s mandate as CTO is to lead a visionary team that not only anticipates but creates the future of automotive technology. His focus will be on rapidly developing next-generation “intelligent” vehicles, outpacing the competition in both innovation and speed to market.

As CEO of Alpine, Krief has dedicated the past year to executing the brand’s strategic vision and launching the new Alpine vehicle lineup, including the A290 and the forthcoming GT crossover. Under his leadership, Alpine has accelerated the development of its high-performance all-electric vehicle platform and advanced hydrogen power technology, exemplified by the Alpenglow Hy4 prototype.

Luca de Meo, CEO of Renault Group, praised Gilles Le Borgne’s contributions: “Gilles has played a pivotal role in our company’s remarkable turnaround, the swiftest in recent automotive history. He revitalized our engineering operations, restoring efficiency and enabling the delivery of numerous models under the Renaulution plan this year. I extend my heartfelt thanks to him. Philippe inherits a strong position and high-performing teams, and I am confident that his vast experience will inject new energy into our pursuit of technological leadership, outstripping competition from both the East and West. Motorsport remains a crucible of innovation for our vehicles. It’s our responsibility to transform this into accessible reality for our customers.”

Philippe Krief, a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées, has an illustrious career spanning various prestigious automotive brands. Beginning at Michelin, he advanced through the Fiat Group before taking on significant roles at Ferrari and Maserati, including Vehicle Department Director and Technical Director at Alfa Romeo. Returning to Ferrari in 2016 as Director of Engineering, Krief was appointed Director of Engineering and Product Performance for Alpine in February 2023, before ascending to the CEO position.
