(Harare, Tuesday, April 16, 2024) – Nissan Zimbabwe’s spokesperson and Amtec Motors CEO, Lucas Taruvinga, warmly greeted the Nissan Daring Africa 2024 expedition team as they arrived in Zimbabwe. The team, traveling in four Nissan Navaras accompanied by an X-Trail support vehicle, are partway through their ambitious journey across eight African nations.

Upon entering Zimbabwe, the expedition convened in Mutare. There, they were joined by local journalists and Nissan employees for an adventurous off-road trip to the breathtaking Mutarazi Falls and nearby regions, before continuing on to Harare.

“Nissan holds a unique position in Zimbabwe with four accredited sales companies: Clover Leaf, Croco, Amtec, and AMC. This allows us an excellent opportunity to lead the market here,” Taruvinga noted during their stay.

The Regional General Manager for Nissan Africa, Linda Mazimhaka, highlighted the strategic importance of the Zimbabwe operation within Nissan Africa. “The Navara is a standout in our Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) lineup. This expedition not only showcases its robustness but also connects our manufacturing sites in Rosslyn, South Africa, and Cairo, Egypt,” Mazimhaka stated.

The Navara, designed and built in Africa for African conditions, has demonstrated its durability, especially in tough terrains like Mozambique’s demanding routes and the picturesque Eastern Highlands of Zimbabwe.

As Zimbabwe celebrates nearly 60 years of Nissan’s presence, this expedition also marks the legacy of Nissan’s longstanding engagement in the country. “Our first showroom opened in 1967. It’s an honor to host the latest chapter of our proud LCV history with the Navara,” said Taruvinga.

Following their visit, the team will travel to Kariba, then on to Zambia, as they continue through Malawi and Tanzania in the subsequent phases of their adventure.

Maciej Klenkiewicz, Managing Director for Nissan South Africa and Independent Markets Africa, emphasized, “This expedition underscores Nissan’s enduring dedication to Africa. Our ownership of manufacturing plants in Egypt and South Africa, along with a comprehensive dealer network across the continent, illustrates our commitment. We’re proud to support and celebrate our dealers and partners throughout this journey.”

Klenkiewicz also noted that later this year, the Navara will be exported to Egypt, where the expedition is set to conclude, having started in South Africa.
