Infiniti G Coupe

Global brand Infiniti, the latest luxury brand to reach South African shores, brings with it the renowned G Coupe as part of its initial product line up in South Africa. Designed to appeal as much to the heart as to the head, the G Coupe provides an intoxicating combination of dynamic looks, inspiring drive and a surprising degree of practicality.

INSPIRED PERFORMANCE AN INFINITI VIRTUE

The new Infiniti G Coupe is the brand’s most accurate representation of its guiding principle of Inspired Performance, being a true performance car which offers a two-plus-two seating layout in a sexy coupe body with a strong street presence. Sharing its core DNA with its G Cabrio sister, the G Coupe takes on its own personality in terms of styling and its overall appearance.

Infiniti G Coupe Logo

The new Infiniti G Coupe’s long bonnet is met by a low-slung body, with typical front-engine, rear-wheel drive proportions. Trademark Infiniti design cues as well as a sophisticated chassis and peerless quality elevate a conventional coupe design to a higher level. High levels of standard equipment further endow the new Infiniti G Coupe with typical Infiniti prowess.

Even when standing still, the G Coupe imparts a feeling of dynamism thanks to its elegant and sophisticated proportions, allied to an expressive, curving shoulder line. The G Coupe’s low centre of gravity is also accentuated by the relatively short front and rear overhangs, sending a clear message that this is a rear-wheel drive car. Curving character lines at the front mimic the design lines of the front wings, aiding the G Coupe’s athletic stance even further. Japanese swords were used as inspiration for the slats in the front grille as well, and a special production process had to be developed for installation of the headlights – ensuring a precise fit into the complex surfaces.

Infiniti G Coupe Instruments

The rear of the new Infiniti G Coupe is characterised by bold, muscular shoulders and an integrated boot spoiler. Double-circle LED tail lamps and twin exhausts complete the performance car-inspired rear. Eighteen-inch alloy wheels are standard fitment, with sportier models gaining 19-inch alloys for a truly energetic demeanour.

Providing a sporting environment for its driver and a luxuriously open space for the front passenger, the Infiniti G Coupe features a lavishly-equipped interior finished in top-quality materials. Infiniti design DNA is clearly evident in the double wave dashboard architecture, with a central vertical spine imparting strength and solidity.

Shodo aluminium trim which has been textured to reflect traditional Japanese calligraphy is an example of how the Infiniti G Coupe pays homage to traditional Japanese design and crafts, evident in all Infiniti products. Special care has been paid also to ergonomics and with electric adjustment for the seats and steering wheel (where the instrument cluster moves according to wheel position as well), ultimate driver comfort is easily achieved.

The long wheelbase also affords rear passengers not only easy ingress and egress (where the front seats have electric sliding and folding with position memory) but also useable rear leg- and head-room. Folding rear seats also mean practicality has been enhanced in the new Infiniti G Coupe.

PROVEN POWERTRAIN PROVIDES EXCELLLENT PERFORMANCE

Available in three grades with a seven-speed automatic transmission – G37 Coupe GT, G37 Coupe S and G37 Coupe S Premium – all new Infiniti G Coupe models share the same blood-pumping sportscar engine: a 3.7-litre V6 petrol motor which delivers 235 kW (at a soul-stirring 7000 rpm) and 360 Nm at 5200 rpm.

These numbers translate into true sporty performance credentials: the new Infiniti G37 Coupe takes just 5.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h from standstill and its top speed is limited to 250 km/h. The proven engine features VVEL (Variable Valve Event and Lift) technology to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions, which sit at 268 g/km. Average combined fuel economy is 11.4-litres per 100km.

Infiniti G Coupe Inside

The seven-speed ASC (Active Shift Control) automatic gearbox features additional manual shift paddles mounted behind the steering wheel, milled from solid magnesium and there to provide all the control of a manual gearbox with the convenience of two-pedal motoring. A DS (Drive Sport) mode allows for more vigorous driving, with higher shift points and more prompt downshifts under braking, and the engine is allowed to rev right to the red line.

HIGH SAFETY STANDARDS

The new Infiniti G Coupe comes standard with a host of active and passive safety systems, ensuring peace of mind motoring and a protective environment for occupants.

Safety systems on board include ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and BAS (Brake Assist System), ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) and six airbags (incorporating hip and thorax airbags as well as full-length curtain airbags). The braking system has seen extended development just for the new Infiniti G37 Coupe, where a “link design” brake pedal has been used to enhance braking feel – the brake pedal becomes progressively firmer as g-forces and vehicle speed increase.

Less prominent but no-less important safety features comprise bi-xenon active cornering headlights, a pedestrian-friendly popup bonnet and active front head restraints on all models.

G37 Coupe S models also benefit from a tyre pressure monitoring system, while range-topping G37 Coupe S Premium models gain Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with Low Speed Following (LSF). Low Speed Following enhances ICC by reducing the driver’s workload in the low-speed range (between 5km/h and 40km/h) such as driving in congested traffic; LSF assists the driver with acceleration and deceleration actions in slow moving traffic. Based on ICC technology, the Intelligent Brake Assist (IBA) represents a safety feature which can prevent or reduce damage caused by a rear-end collision. When there is a risk of a collision with the vehicle in front and the driver must take avoidance action immediately, the system sounds a warning to prompt action by the driver to help avoid a collision. When a rear-end collision cannot be avoided by the driver’s action, the system activates the brakes to decelerate the vehicle, thereby helping to reduce damage resulting from the collision.

FRONT-MIDSHIP CHASSIS LAYOUT AND REAR-DRIVE FOR TRUE SPORTSCAR HANDLING

As the new Infiniti G Coupe’s body design suggests, this coupe has been designed to be an out-and-out sportscar. The front-midship chassis layout which is shared with other Infiniti models including the G Cabrio, allows the front-mounted engine to be positioned far-back and low-down in the engine bay, lowering the car’s centre of gravity and achieving optimal weight distribution.

Lightweight aluminium components have been used extensively in the fully independent suspension setup, where multilink rear and double wishbone front suspension formats mate with the extremely rigid body shell to impart the agile handling characteristics associated with the car’s performance potential.

The Infiniti G37 Coupe S and S Premium models, which of course look sportier than the GT variant, benefit not only from visual upgrades for a more menacing appearance, but advanced technology features further enhance their sporting appeal.

Four-wheel Active Steer (4WAS), which varies the front steering ratio and adjusts the geometry of the rear suspension according to vehicle speed and steering input, augments turn-in, boosts stability and maximises grip. Furthermore, a Viscous Limited Slip Differential (VLSD), recalibrated sports suspension settings and the “link design” brake pedal take the Infiniti G Coupe’s already agile handling and driver involvement to a new level.

THREE MODEL GRADES OFFER COMPREHENSIVE KIT

The three Infiniti G37 Coupe grades – GT, S and S Premium – are all available with comprehensive standard specifications, and even at base GT level customers are not left wanting for much.

Standard equipment for GT models includes aluminium pedals, an electric glass sunroof, light-sensing bi-xenon adaptive cornering headlights with a follow-me-home function, scratch-resistant paint, speed-sensitive power steering with a leather-bound electrically-adjustable multifunction steering wheel, Shodo aluminium interior trim, dual-zone automatic climate control, 10-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat (8-way for the front passenger), folding rear seats, front and rear parking sensors, cruise control with a speed limiter, 18-inch alloy wheels, a central colour display with Infiniti Controller, full leather upholstery with heated front seats, LED tail lights, automatic wipers, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a smart access I-Key with memory function for the driver’s seating, steering wheel and side mirror positions (the I-Key is an expression of Infiniti hospitality: when approaching the car, the encrypted signal primes the vehicle’s systems to accept a command). A 2GB Music Box coupled to a single CD front-loader, MP3 and WMA compatibility and seven speakers are also included, along with Bluetooth for hands-free mobile phone use and audio streaming.

The new Infiniti G37 Coupe S variant adds 4WAS, VLSD, 19-inch alloy wheels, recalibrated suspension settings, opposed calliper brakes, heated sports leather seats, 14-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat and a tyre pressure monitoring system over and above GT specifications.

ICC with IBA are also included.
