Leverkusen, 17/05/2024: Mazda is excited to announce its participation in Homo Faber 2024, a prestigious event celebrating contemporary craftsmanship, held in Venice, Italy, from September 1st to 30th. Organized by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity & Craftsmanship, this year’s theme, “The Journey of Life,” explores life’s significant milestones through the lens of craft.
The event will be hosted at the Giorgio Cini Foundation on San Giorgio Island, featuring immersive exhibitions from craftspeople worldwide. Mazda’s involvement includes a curated display of crafted objects and hands-on workshops in paper marbling, globe-making, and bookbinding, showcasing the brand’s dedication to the ethos of Japanese craftsmanship encapsulated in their promise, “Crafted in Japan.”
Homo Faber’s third edition, guided by art directors Luca Guadagnino, a renowned Italian film director and producer, and Nicolò Rosmarini, an acclaimed Italian architect, will take visitors through life’s pivotal moments—from birth to the afterlife—highlighting the craftsmanship behind each stage. The event will unveil hundreds of handcrafted objects by talented artisans, celebrating diverse skills, techniques, and innovative approaches.
For over a century, Mazda’s Takumi designers and engineers have mastered traditional Japanese craftsmanship, infusing this expertise into every vehicle. The multi-award-winning ‘Kodo-Soul of Motion’ design philosophy animates Mazda’s cars, embodying Japanese aesthetics and emotional expression. Each Mazda vehicle begins as an abstract handcrafted sculpture, reflecting the principles of Monozukuri (the art of making) and Kaizen (continuous improvement).
Katarina Loksa, Head of Brand at Mazda Motor Europe, expressed her enthusiasm: “At Mazda, we prioritize attention to detail and strive for perfection in every step of our process. Sharing this dedication with the Michelangelo Foundation, we are honored to participate in Homo Faber 2024. ‘The Journey of Life’ is a beautiful theme, and we look forward to welcoming visitors to experience our Takumi journey—an exploration of travel and craftsmanship.”
Alberto Cavalli, Executive Director of the Michelangelo Foundation, added: “Mazda’s approach to design and craftsmanship aligns perfectly with Homo Faber’s values of originality, creativity, and respect for artisanal talent. The participatory workshops supported by Mazda offer a valuable addition to this year’s event, allowing visitors to engage in poetic crafts such as bookbinding and papermaking.”
Mazda’s presence at Homo Faber 2024 highlights its commitment to excellence in craftsmanship, celebrating the artistry and dedication that define the brand. Through its exhibitions and workshops, Mazda invites visitors to experience the rich tradition of Japanese craftsmanship and its modern applications.
