As Europe’s biggest motorcycle manufacturer, KTM refuses to slow down its progress on every aspect of its business activities; be it improving its existing, unstoppable machines or creating innovative, class-defining new ones, like the incredible new electric FREERIDE E range and 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE – a bike that positions KTM firmly in the luxury travel market.
Along with more world championship trophies added to the over-loaded cabinet in Mattighofen, the Austrian brand is on course for another milestone year in 2014; exceeding all targets in its showrooms around the world and is on course to have sold 27.8% more motorcycles than in 2013. Part of this success is attributed to pushing harder into emerging markets and increasing its offering of smaller capacity products with models like the RC 125, RC 200 and RC 390, launched earlier this year to critical acclaim.
As a company, KTM has physically grown as well; the R&D department that pushes the orange machines further, faster and in new directions now has a third floor and an increase in personnel of 330. The offices at the main Mattighofen factory now have a third floor to cope with the expansion to its marketing and sales teams.
With the unveiling of the 1290 SUPER ADVENTURE the Austrians have created a new class standard for luxury touring on a motorcycle. Boasting features including 160 hp, 150 Nm, semi-active suspension, cornering lights, cruise control, hill hold control, KTM powers into this segment with a bike that embodies superlative technology in every respect as far as its power, comfort and equipment goes – but of course with an explicitly dynamic touch.
KTM has set a new bar for electric motorcycles in its typical manner with the innovative FREERIDE E-SX, E-XC and E-SM. Although lacking petrol power, these bikes are still built to the company’s ‘READY TO RACE’ mantra boasting high-specification components and incredible performance. The offroad biased E-SX and E-XC that were dynamically tested by the media in September with great success are now joined by the street legal E-SM, that will soon be ripping up the road as the first true electric Supermoto.
INTERMOT is also the venue for the world premiere of a new video from KTM featuring the incredible talents of Danny MacAskill – the Red Bull-sponsored trials cyclist swapping pedal power for an electric FREERIDE to show just how capable the ‘battery bike’ can be.
