Jaguar Celebrates Women’s Empowerment and Creativity Through Art and Storytelling

Pretoria, South Africa – 11 June 2024: Jaguar South Africa proudly showcased the remarkable artistry of six South African women from the 2023 #GiveHerACrown campaign at a prestigious event held at the South African Consulate in New York. The #GiveHerACrown platform harnesses the power of storytelling and the arts to champion gender equality. By collaborating with this platform, Jaguar celebrated and highlighted the talents and stories of these exceptional women, deeply rooted in South African heritage.

The event, attended by over 80 distinguished guests, including diplomats, local and international business leaders, and prominent figures from the art, fashion, and media industries, served as a significant platform for uplifting female artists. Empowered by Jaguar, the event provided these women with a unique opportunity to showcase their talents and share their inspiring stories.

The campaign was lauded for its profound impact on women empowerment, its purposeful mission, and its dedication to celebrating South African creativity. Each artist created a bespoke piece on the theme of “Celebrating the Exquisite Details,” with each artwork narrating a story designed to inspire and encourage women to embrace their uniqueness and individuality. As a testament to the success of this event, two of the showcased designs have been permanently housed at the South African Consulate in New York, while the remaining pieces found buyers upon their return to South Africa.

Irene Kakooza, Communications Manager for JLR South Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa, expressed the brand’s honor in participating in this showcase, stating, “Jaguar understands that culture and art have the power to tell untold stories, subvert stereotypes, shed light on our collective values, and explore different facets of our complex identities. Through their creative expressions, these artists have provided insight into the human experience from their diverse perspectives. It was a great honor for Jaguar to be part of this showcase.”

Jaguar’s support for the #GiveHerACrown platform extends beyond showcasing art. The proceeds from this event have been directed towards the Crown Bursary Fund, which will further the education of 14 women creatives at private educational institutions. Ten students will attend the Inscape Design School, while four will enroll in the newly developed modular online courses in interior design at the BHC School of Design in partnership with Visi. To date, the bursary program has benefitted 20 students.

The Crown Collection has also contributed to raising funds for an innovative educational program in schools. In collaboration with the non-profit organization Lalela, the program uses the arts to promote gender equality.

The #GiveHerACrown campaign is part of Jaguar Land Rover’s broader commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, supporting women globally to thrive in creative industries.
