5FM Jock, motorsport commentator, Topgear MPH host and local celebrity, Sasha Martinengo, recently took delivery of a brand new flaming red Alfa Romeo GT 3.2 V6 courtesy of Arnold Chatz and Alfa Romeo South Africa (Fiat Group Automobiles SA).

An avowed ‘Alfista’, Sasha is already the proud owner of a Rosso Red Alfa 156 GTA but, it’s worth mentioning that the Martinengo garage has through the years accommodated a veritable vehicular feast of Alfas including a GT Junior, several GTVs and Spiders, a 145,147, 156 Sportwagon, ’55 Guilietta Veloce and a lot more.

“I have always loved Alfa Romeos – and Fiats for that matter (I also own a 1957 Fiat 500) – and it’s not just because of my Italian heritage. As cliched as it sounds, there’s no getting away from the passion that’s built into every single car. I am really looking forward to piloting this GT for the next few months,” Sasha said.

Available with a choice of two iconic engines: the more frugal-minded 1.9 JTD and the sonorous 3.2 V6, the GT has a starting price of just R335 700, which represents outstanding value for money and positions the car well below benchmark rivals.

The good news for Sasha is that the GT will by no means be his Alfa swansong because waiting in the wings is the all-new Alfa MiTo, a car that’s been dubbed the ‘sportiest mini from a premium manufacturer’. And, yes you guessed it, Mr Martinengo will be in the front of the queue to take delivery of this racy ‘bambino’. In fact, he’s already specced his forthcoming MiTo exactly the way he wants it – it’s Gardenia White and it’s topped up with such niceties as red Italian leather, front arm rest, sports pedals, Blue&Me, painted brake calipers, 18-inch alloy wheels, PDC, Bose sound and a rear spoiler.

Legend has it that Henry Ford doffed his cap whenever an Alfa went by – I’m sure Mr Martinengo will be equally appreciative if you toot your horn the next time you see him fly past in his Alfa Romeo.
