Milton Keynes, UK (24 July 2024) – Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has unveiled the highly anticipated 7th-generation Transporter, a model that brings the iconic van’s interior into the 21st century while maintaining the essence of its predecessor. The new Transporter represents a harmonious blend of form and function, offering a workspace that is both aesthetically pleasing and supremely practical.
Albert Kirzinger, Chief Designer at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, highlights the significance of this design evolution: “The Volkswagen van became an icon because form and function were in perfect harmony from the very beginning. We have taken this harmony to new heights with the new Transporter, and designed an interior that transposes the layout of the successful T6.1 into modern times.”
A Modern Interior with a Classic Touch
The 7th-generation Transporter introduces a redesigned digital cockpit that integrates seamlessly with physical controls. The interface includes easy-to-use hardkeys, ensuring that users can navigate through the vehicle’s features effortlessly. This thoughtful combination of digital and tactile elements is aimed at maximizing efficiency for professionals who rely on their vans for everyday work.
“The new Transporter has a visually harmonious cockpit landscape,” Kirzinger explains. “We have purposely supplemented or combined the wide range of digital functions with physical controls. This is because the Transporter is a tool, a vehicle for professionals. They need everything to be straightforward to use so that they can work efficiently.”
The new design retains the familiar layout for T6.1 drivers, but with enhancements that simplify operation. The 12-inch digital instrument cluster and 13-inch infotainment display are now complemented by a starter button for the Keyless Start system. The repositioned steering column selector lever, available with either standard or optional automatic transmission, has created more legroom, enhancing driver comfort.
Ergonomically Perfect Workspace
Volkswagen has meticulously crafted the new Transporter’s interior to maximize functionality. The elimination of the traditional handbrake lever in favor of a parking brake switch has freed up space in the footwell. Large cup holders, practical stowage compartments, and an ergonomically designed multifunction steering wheel contribute to a clean, stylish, and highly functional workspace.
“The high dash panel and the naturally high seating position create the typical Volkswagen van feeling when on board,” Kirzinger notes. “We’ve really used every nook and cranny to maximize functionality. The result is an ergonomically perfect workplace with a clean, stylish look.”
Versatile Power Options for Every Need
The new Transporter excels in versatility, offering a load compartment ranging from 5.8 to 9.0 m³, accommodating up to three Euro pallets. This commercial vehicle is equipped with a comprehensive array of charging points, ensuring that tradespeople, service providers, couriers, and emergency services have the power they need.
The vehicle includes USB-A, USB-C, and 12V sockets, with optional 230V charging points. Diesel versions feature a 230V socket (400 W) on the driver’s seat frame, while electric and plug-in hybrid models can be equipped with up to three 230V sockets, providing a total output of 2,300 W. This makes the Transporter capable of powering a wide range of devices, from laptops to circular saws.
In conclusion, Volkswagen’s 7th-generation Transporter sets a new benchmark in the commercial vehicle segment, blending modern technology with the classic design elements that have defined the brand. With its user-friendly interface, ergonomic design, and versatile power options, it stands as a testament to Volkswagen’s commitment to delivering both style and functionality.
