Ford South Africa has introduced the latest iteration of its highly acclaimed Transit Custom range with the launch of the Base Long Wheelbase Van, marking the beginning of a new era for commercial vehicles. Designed to cater to the needs of small and medium businesses, the new Transit Custom combines customer-inspired innovations with enhanced productivity features.
Built on a brand-new vehicle platform, this generation of the Transit Custom focuses on optimizing load carrying capabilities, improving driver comfort, and enhancing overall performance and safety. The redesigned platform is not only stiffer but also lighter, featuring a longer wheelbase that maximizes cargo capacity and accessibility.
“The Transit Custom is renowned in Europe as the top-selling van and has consistently earned accolades, including multiple International Van of the Year awards. It’s a testament to its reliability and efficiency in boosting business productivity,” remarked Doreen Mashinini, General Manager for Marketing at Ford South Africa.
The new model boasts a streamlined body design that incorporates advanced aerodynamic features, resulting in a significant reduction in aerodynamic drag compared to its predecessor. This design enhancement contributes to improved fuel efficiency and maneuverability in confined spaces like multi-storey car parks and loading bays.
Inside, the Transit Custom offers a spacious and practical load compartment equipped with features such as load area tie-down loops, LED interior lighting, and a versatile load-through capability. Optional upgrades include dual sliding side doors, a metal bulkhead with window, and integrated roof racks, catering to diverse business needs.

Underpinning the Transit Custom’s performance is Ford’s 2.0-liter Single Turbo EcoBlue diesel engine, delivering 100kW of power and 360Nm of torque through a six-speed manual gearbox. The engine is engineered for efficiency and compliance with emissions standards, utilizing AdBlue technology to minimize nitrogen oxide emissions.
In terms of safety and technology, the Transit Custom sets a new standard with features like ABS brakes, Electronic Stability Programme, and a comprehensive suite of driver assistance systems including Collision Mitigation and Lane Keeping Aid. Connectivity is enhanced with Ford’s SYNC 4 system, supported by a 13-inch touchscreen and 12-inch digital instrument cluster.
“The introduction of the new Transit Custom reflects Ford’s commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction,” added Mashinini. “It’s a game-changer for businesses looking to optimize their operational efficiency and performance.”
The Transit Custom Base Long Wheelbase Van is now available in South Africa, priced at R692,200 including VAT. It comes with a four-year/120,000km warranty, Roadside Assistance, and corrosion warranty, with optional service and maintenance plans for extended peace of mind.
