Gordon Murray Automotive’s T.50s Niki Lauda Crowned Hypercar of the Year by Robb Report
Highams Park, Surrey, UK – 12 June 2024: In a stellar recognition of British engineering excellence, Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) proudly announces that its ultra-exclusive T.50s Niki Lauda has been named Hypercar of the Year at the 39th annual Robb Report ‘Best of the Best’ awards.
The T.50s Niki Lauda, an uncompromising track-only supercar, elevates driver engagement to unparalleled levels compared to its road-going sibling, the T.50. Weighing in at under 900 kg, the T.50s harnesses the full power of its 772 PS GMA V12 engine, revving up to an extraordinary 12,100 rpm to deliver an unmatched on-track driving experience.
Sharing the T.50’s central driving position, the T.50s is a wholly new creation, featuring an entirely new monocoque and carbon fibre body panels. Priced at £3.1m (before taxes), it boasts a 1,758 mm-wide delta wing, which, in conjunction with a rear-mounted fan, a new front splitter, underbody aerofoil, and adjustable diffusers, generates up to 1,200 kg of downforce.

Robb Report editors praised the T.50s Niki Lauda in their special magazine issue commemorating the 39th annual Best of the Best awards: “Limited to just 25 examples, all eagerly claimed by customers, the T.50s Niki Lauda stands as a testament to automotive innovation. Named in honor of Gordon Murray’s close friend and three-time Formula 1 World Drivers’ champion, Niki Lauda, this 772 PS track-exclusive marvel demonstrates that Murray’s genius extends far beyond the legendary McLaren F1.”
Phillip Lee, CEO of Gordon Murray Group, expressed gratitude for the accolade: “On behalf of Gordon and everyone at Gordon Murray Group, I extend our heartfelt thanks to Robb Report for this prestigious honor. We take immense pride in adhering to our seven core principles, which guide every product we create. To be recognized by Robb Report’s esteemed judges is indeed high praise and allows us to officially call ourselves ‘Best of the Best’ – a tribute to our legendary friend Niki Lauda.”
Each of the 25 T.50s chassis is uniquely themed, starting with Murray’s first race victory in 1974 at Kyalami, South Africa, and continuing through his subsequent wins at iconic locations. The T.50s prototype made its public debut at the 81st Goodwood Members Meet in April, captivating over 15,000 spectators with its exhilarating performance. This event also celebrated Niki Lauda’s illustrious career, further highlighted by GMA’s display of the T.50s’ connection to the iconic Brabham BT46B ‘Fan Car’ that Lauda drove to victory at the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix.
The BT46B, conceived by Gordon Murray during his tenure as Chief Designer at Brabham Formula One, achieved instant legendary status with its ground-effect fan system. Despite its dominant win at Anderstorp, the car was withdrawn to maintain harmony within the championship.
Gordon Murray Automotive remains dedicated to its seven core principles: Driving Perfection, Lightweight, Engineering Art, Premium Brand, A Return to Beauty, Exclusivity, and The Customer Journey.
