Leap Year 2012: Gioachino Rossini Google Doodle
In this article we will briefly discuss the Google Doodle Design and the Composer Gioachino Rossini that Google chose to commemorate the Leap Year 2012.

Significance of the Frogs in the Google Doodle Leap Year Logo.
The Hearts in the Leap Year Logo representing Marriage Proposal.
Gioachino Rossini Barber of Seville in the Leap Year Google Logo.
These are just a few of the elements that we have found to symbolize important Leap Year traditions and find their use in the Google Logo Significant. It is my opinion that the Google Leap Year Logo were not just designed but that there have gone some real vision and thought into the creation of this year’s Google Doodle Leap Year Logo.

Frogs in the Google Doodle Leap Year 2012 Logo
The frogs in the Google Leap Year logo are really interesting at first it were not very clear to me why the designers of the logo picked frogs as the characters in the Google Logo. I have done some research on Gioachino Rossini thinking that the frogs in the Google Leap Year logo must have something to do with Gioachino Rossini.

Gioachino Rossini were a famous italian Opera and Music Composer. Some of his works were produced into cartoon characters and play’s. Now if you take a closer look at the Google Leap Year 2012 Logo you will see a frog in a barber chair. This clearly symbolize the Gioachino Rossini Barber of Seville Opera and work of Gioachino Rossini.
Google Leap Year Frog History
After finding the link between Gioachino Rossini and the frogs in Leap Year 2012 logo, I were wondering if there were more symbolism to the frogs in the logo. Here are two of the previous Google Leap Year Doodles:
Leap Year 2004
This is the first Leap Year Doodle have created. The Google Doodle Leap Year were used for the first time on 29th February 2004.
As you can see there are frogs in the Google Doodle and the Frog are leaping. The Leaping frog were used in 2004 to portray the leap year. If you are born on the 29th of February you are called a leaping. Meaning that you only celebrate your birthday every four years on the 29th of February and the other years the day after the 28th February which means your birthday leaps to the 1st of March.
Leap Year 2008
Again in 2008 Google chose to celebrate the leap year with a frog leaping.
Both the 2004 and 2008 Google Leap Year logo’s were relatively straight forwards carrying the theme of the frogs.
This brings me back to the 2012 Gioachino Rossini Leap Year Logo and the significance of the elements inside the logo. So far we have determined that Gioachino Rossini were born on the 29th of February. That he was connected to frogs with his Opera Barber of Seville.
We have discovered that Google have a history of using frogs within their leap year doodles. This leaves us with one more very important Leap Year Tradition. The tradition of a woman proposing to a man on new year!
Leap Year Marriage Proposal
Indeed the 2012 Leap Year Google Doodle is the best Leap Year Google Doodle ever. In the Google Doodle there is even a marriage proposal. If one look at the lady and the hearts and the piano man in the Google Doodle it is easy to believe that this symbolizes the tradition that it is acceptable for a woman to propose to a man on the 29th February on leap day in a leap year.
