Johannesburg, South Africa – 29 August 2025 – The roar of engines, the shimmer of polished alloys, and the thrill of the open track came together at the 8th annual Festival of Motoring at Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. Amidst the spectacle, one brand consistently drew the eye: GAC. Over media day and the bustling weekend, GAC unveiled three headline-grabbing models – the Emzoom Nova, the PHEV M8 Master, and the all-electric Aion Y – redefining what South African drivers can expect from modern mobility.
More than a showcase, the Festival of Motoring is South Africa’s ultimate automotive playground, where design, innovation, and performance converge. For GAC, it provided the perfect stage to demonstrate a forward-looking lineup blending luxury, electrification, and accessibility, while catering to the practical demands of the local market.
Emzoom Nova – Thrill, Amplified
Debuting on Thursday, the Emzoom Nova Entry Spec immediately set hearts racing. With a turbocharged 1.5TG engine delivering 130 kW and 270 Nm, coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, the Nova is as agile in city streets as it is confident on open roads. Its 17-inch alloys and refreshed grille ensure the Nova turns heads, while a fuel-efficient 6.2 L/100 km economy underscores practicality.
Inside, the cabin is a seamless blend of technology and comfort: a 10-inch infotainment screen, keyless entry, and driver-focused design create a tech-forward experience at a price from R359 900. GAC further sweetens the deal with a Lifetime Engine Warranty and a 2-year / 30,000 km service plan, instilling confidence in a brand that continues to make bold strides in South Africa’s automotive market.
PHEV M8 Master – Luxury Reimagined
Arriving in Q4 2025, the M8 Master redefines executive transport. GAC’s flagship MPV pairs a 2.0T GDI engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a sophisticated plug-in hybrid system. The result is a combined 274 kW and 630 Nm, propelling the M8 from 0–100 km/h in just 8.8 seconds, while delivering a remarkable total range of 1,032 km.
Inside, the M8 Master spoils passengers with Semi-Aniline Nappa leather, captain’s chairs, and cutting-edge driver assistance technology, creating a true first-class cabin experience. With weighted hubs and a focus on passenger comfort, it is as much a sanctuary as it is a statement of performance – ideal for South Africans who value luxury and capability in equal measure.

Aion Y – The Electric Future, Now
The fully electric Aion Y, also set for a Q4 2025 launch, embodies sustainable mobility without compromise. Its 63.2 kWh battery offers up to 490 km of NEDC range, while the 150 kW, 225 Nm electric motor delivers spirited, responsive performance. Futuristic touches, from Angel Wings LED headlights to a panoramic sunroof and hidden door handles, are mirrored inside by a 14.6-inch infotainment screen and advanced L2 driving assistance systems. Designed for South Africa’s tech-savvy, environmentally conscious drivers, the Aion Y merges innovation, efficiency, and excitement.
Immersive Experiences Beyond the Showroom
Festival attendees experienced more than static displays. Adrenaline-charged track sessions in the Emzoom R-Style, hands-on drives in the Emkoo and Emzoom, and interactive features such as the GAC O₂ Bar created a high-energy, sensory-rich environment. Every guest became part of the #CraftYourPath narrative, capturing live photo moments via QR code, leaving a tangible memory of the GAC experience.
“South Africa is a market that thrives on bold design, powerful performance, and forward-thinking technology,” said Brian Smith, Marketing Director of GAC South Africa. “With the Emzoom, Emkoo, M8 Master, and Aion Y, we didn’t just bring new models, we brought new possibilities and innovative mobility to the road.”
Already operating 28 dealerships nationwide, with plans to expand to 40 by year-end, GAC is ensuring South Africans have ready access to advanced, stylish, and reliable vehicles.
The 2025 Festival of Motoring reminded attendees that the future of motoring is not just about speed or spectacle. It is about innovation, sustainability, and experiences that inspire. And this year, GAC led the charge.
