Ford continues to get behind the South African Rugby team with the announcement that it will sponsor SA Rugby star Francois Steyn with a new Ford Ranger.
Francois has enjoyed a meteoric rise in South African rugby and has become a well established personality in South Africa with a universal target market appeal. Ford President and CEO, Hal Feder handed over the keys of a brand new Ford Ranger 3.0 4×4 D/Cab XLE to Steyn on Sunday 31 August at the DStv Getaway Show, held at the Coca Cola Dome.
Francois Steyn is a South African rugby union player, who plays for the South African national squad as well as the Natal Sharks. He is seen as one of the biggest talents to have emerged recently in the game of rugby. He was also a member of the winning team of the 2007 Rugby World Cup.
“Francois was the perfect fit for us, he has strong family and moral values and he performs well under pressure and is a determined and hardworking personality. This is exactly the kind of image we at Ford would like to portray and we look forward to long and exciting relationship with Francois in the future,” commented Ben Pillay, Ford Marketing Manager.
Steyn is eager to get behind the wheel of his new Ford Ranger. “I am proud to have been chosen by Ford to represent their brand. The Ford Ranger is perfectly suited to my needs and my lifestyle and I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel and experiencing the Built Ford Tough lifestyle for myself,” says Steyn.
The Ford Ranger is built locally at Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa’s Silverton plant. Powered by a 3.0-litre common rail diesel engine the Ranger produces 115kW at 3200rpm and 380Nm at 1800rpm resulting in rapid engine response and great fuel economy.
