Ford South Africa Earns Top Employer Certification For The Second Consecutive Year

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA, 18 March 2025 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Manufacturing) (Pty) Ltd (Ford South Africa) has been recognised as a Top Employer for the second consecutive year, reaffirming its commitment to fostering a high-performing and supportive workplace. This prestigious certification from the Top Employers Institute highlights Ford South Africa’s ongoing investment in industry-leading people practices that enhance employee satisfaction, professional growth, and overall workplace culture.

Achieving this certification underscores the company’s holistic approach to employee development and well-being, which remain core pillars of its success. The recognition also reflects the dedication and collaborative spirit of Ford’s workforce, whose commitment fuels the company’s long-term sustainability and leadership in the industry.

A Legacy of Investment and Growth

Ford South Africa has a rich history in the country, spanning over a century of continuous investment in its people and operations. Today, the company employs over 5,200 people across its Silverton Manufacturing Plant in Pretoria and the Struandale Engine Plant in Gqeberha. Additionally, it supports approximately 60,000 jobs across its value chain, making a significant contribution to South Africa’s economic growth.

Since assembling the Model T in 1924, Ford South Africa has established itself as a major manufacturing force. The locally built Ranger, which has been exported to over 100 markets since 2011, is a key driver of this success. With an annual production capacity of up to 200,000 vehicles, Ford continues to strengthen its role in the global automotive landscape. In 2021, the company announced a major investment to modernise the Silverton operations, followed by a further investment in 2023 to produce the first-ever Ranger Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) for global export.

A People-First Approach to Success

At the heart of Ford South Africa’s success is its unwavering commitment to its employees. The company places a strong emphasis on fostering innovation, teamwork, and professional growth. Through local and international experiential training, Ford invests in enhancing workplace culture, ensuring that every employee feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed.

“This award is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees who embody the Ford Behaviours of Excellence, Focus, and Collaboration,” said Neale Hill, president, Ford Motor Company, Africa. “As we celebrate this recognition, we remain focused on pushing boundaries and setting new benchmarks for employee development and satisfaction.”

Empowering Employees Through Well-being and Inclusion

Ford South Africa goes beyond conventional employee development, actively promoting well-being, inclusivity, and community engagement. Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) play a crucial role in fostering a sense of belonging, bringing together employees with shared interests in music, sport, and advocacy. These groups, which include the Ford Choir, Pride, Women of Ford, running clubs, and soccer clubs, strengthen connections and promote inclusivity, ensuring that Ford is not just a place to work but a place to belong.

“We are honoured to be recognised as a Top Employer once again,” said Lynn Damons, HR director, Ford South Africa. “This certification motivates us to continuously raise the bar, prioritising the growth and well-being of our employees while upholding the high standards that make Ford an employer of choice.”

Ford also champions health and wellness initiatives, including the annual Ranger Dash, a 5km Fun Run/Walk aimed at raising awareness for breast and prostate cancer. The event brings together employees from different teams, reinforcing the importance of early detection and proactive health advocacy.

Giving Back to Communities

Ford South Africa’s commitment to employee well-being extends into corporate social responsibility. Employees are encouraged to participate in volunteerism, with each individual receiving 16 hours annually for charitable work. Every September, Ford Philanthropy mobilises employees globally to support humanitarian efforts during Global Caring Month, addressing critical issues such as food insecurity, healthcare, and education gaps.

Recognising the invaluable contributions of its long-serving employees, Ford has introduced a special tree-planting initiative to honour retirees. This initiative symbolises their lasting impact on the company while reinforcing Ford South Africa’s commitment to sustainability.

Future-Ready Workforce

Looking ahead, Ford South Africa is implementing advanced training and mentorship programmes designed to empower employees and cultivate leadership potential at all levels. These initiatives form part of Ford’s broader vision to future-proof its workforce and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

Ford South Africa’s recognition as a Top Employer for 2025 is more than just an accolade; it is a reflection of its enduring commitment to its employees, its industry, and the communities it serves. As the company continues to invest in its people and operations, it remains dedicated to driving excellence, innovation, and sustainable growth in South Africa and beyond.
