PRETORIA, South Africa, 29 July 2011 – Following a tremendous victory by Chris Visser and Japie Badenhorst in their Ford Racing Ranger 3.2TDCi, on the Kalahari Botswana 1000 Desert Race last month, team Ford Racing is eagerly anticipating round five of the Absa Off Road Championship.
The Sun City 400 takes place on the weekend of 29 and 30 July and is located just kilometres away from Ford’s manufacturing base in Silverton, North of Pretoria ensuring the team will have strong support from the Ford fans.
As the championship moves into its second half, only eight points separate the leading six contenders. With such a closely fought championship the stakes are higher than ever and Visser and Badenhorst will need to be quick and calm under fire to continue their winning streak.
Lance Woolridge and Ward Huxtable will pilot the second SP Ford Ranger TDCi. They enjoyed a strong outing last year claiming victory in their Class E Ranger. Although now contending in Class SP they will be eager to secure a strong result.
As always the Sun City 400 is expected to be a spectator friendly event and being so close to both Johannesburg and Pretoria many fans are expected to journey out for the day and enjoy the thrilling action.
This year’s event will feature a revised route that will provide its own set of challenges for teams. Despite the new route the event is sure to have easily accessible spectator points and provide plenty of action.
“We’re at an important point in the championship now,” says Team Manager Neil Woolridge. “We are fresh off a win in Botswana and firmly in the championship fight. With only four rounds to go there is everything to play for and we will be going all out to claim our second victory of the season.”
