Ford Expands Tourneo Custom Range With New Active Model For Added Value

Pretoria, South Africa – 12 March 2025 – Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa is expanding its renowned Tourneo Custom range with the introduction of a new Active model. Positioned at a more accessible price point, this new variant builds on the exceptional comfort, practicality, and versatility that have made the Tourneo Custom a favourite among private and fleet customers alike.

The introduction of the Active model is a strategic move to offer a budget-friendly option without compromising on the core strengths that define the Tourneo Custom. While the Trend model, which launched last year, has seen significant success, Ford has recognized an opportunity to provide a model that offers even better value, catering to customers who require the space and flexibility the Tourneo Custom is known for but at a more affordable cost.

A Blend of Practicality and Comfort

The Tourneo Custom Active retains the long-wheelbase configuration and offers eight seats with a flexible track-mounted seating system that can be adjusted to accommodate both passengers and cargo. Whether you need a versatile people-mover or a spacious workhorse, the Active provides the same practicality and comfort as its higher-spec counterpart, the Trend.

The second and third rows of seating can be independently moved along tracks set into the cabin floor, allowing for a customisable layout. The seats can also be rotated for a six-person conference-style seating arrangement or removed altogether to unlock a massive 6.8m³ of cargo space. This level of flexibility, combined with the flat front floor and integrated side steps, ensures easy cross-cab access, making the Tourneo Custom Active ideal for both commercial and family applications.

While the Active model has been positioned as a more affordable option, Ford has ensured that no corners were cut when it comes to the safety and technology that are integral to the Tourneo Custom’s appeal.

Thoughtful Simplifications for Better Value

Ford has streamlined certain features to ensure the Active remains cost-effective without compromising essential comfort or safety features. Notably, the dual-zone climate control system has been replaced by a more straightforward automatic climate control system. Similarly, heated front seats, armrests, and a wireless charger are no longer part of the standard specification. However, these changes do not detract from the overall quality and comfort that Tourneo Custom customers expect.

One notable exterior difference is the deletion of privacy glass, replaced with a light tint for the side and rear windows. Inside, the dual sliding side doors now feature pull-up blinds to offer a level of privacy for passengers without adding significant costs.

Uncompromising Safety and Advanced Tech

The Active model continues to prioritize safety and connectivity, offering a comprehensive suite of standard features. These include LED headlights, Electronic Stability Programme with Traction Control, ABS brakes, Hill Launch Assist, and a Driver Assistance Pack that encompasses Intelligent Speed Assistance, Cruise Control, Collision Mitigation, and Lane Keeping Aid. Additionally, the standard safety features extend to front, side, and curtain airbags, as well as ISOFIX points across the second and third-row seats.

The cabin technology remains high-tech, with a 12-inch instrument cluster paired with an 8-inch configurable digital display. A 13-inch central touchscreen incorporating Ford’s SYNC 4 system comes standard, offering seamless integration with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay via wireless connectivity. USB charging points are also available for all passengers, ensuring that both front and rear occupants stay connected on the go.

Performance and Efficiency

Under the hood, the Active is powered by the same refined 2.0-litre Single Turbo EcoBlue diesel engine that powers the Trend variant. This engine delivers 100 kW of power and 360 Nm of torque, and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission to ensure smooth, responsive driving. The engine also benefits from the addition of AdBlue technology, which helps reduce harmful nitrogen oxide emissions.

The Active is equipped with four selectable drive modes—Normal, Eco, Slippery, and Tow/Haul—allowing drivers to tailor the vehicle’s performance to their specific needs. With a towing capacity of up to 2,500 kg for a braked trailer, the Tourneo Custom Active proves itself as a highly capable option for both personal and commercial use.

Pricing and Warranty

The Tourneo Custom Active offers exceptional value, with a starting price of R1,050,000 (inclusive of VAT). This positions it as a highly competitive option compared to the Trend variant, which is priced at R1,076,000. Ford’s commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is evident in the comprehensive service and warranty package, which includes a 6-year/90,000 km Ford Optional Service Plan, a 4-year/120,000 km warranty, 4-year/unlimited distance Roadside Assistance, and a 5-year/unlimited distance corrosion warranty. Additional options to extend service plans and warranties are also available.

The introduction of the Active variant enhances the versatility of the Ford Tourneo Custom range, making it an even more compelling choice for those who value space, comfort, and practicality at a more accessible price. With its flexible interior, robust safety features, and efficient performance, the Tourneo Custom Active offers an excellent blend of value and functionality for both private and fleet customers in South Africa.
