Milan, September 9, 2025 – Ferrari has once again redefined the boundaries of open-top performance with the unveiling of the 849 Testarossa Spider, a plug-in hybrid berlinetta spider that blends cutting-edge technology with a legacy spanning seven decades. Replacing the SF90 Spider in Ferrari’s lineup, the 849 Testarossa Spider is a marvel of engineering, boasting a mid-rear twin-turbo V8 paired with three electric motors to deliver a staggering 1,050 cv—a 50-cv increase over its predecessor.

The name Testarossa evokes a rich Ferrari heritage, first used in 1956 for the 500 TR, a racing car distinguished by its red cam covers, and later immortalised in the iconic 1984 road-going Testarossa. With the 849 Spider, Ferrari revives this legendary moniker, marrying historical reverence with modern innovation.

Open-Air Performance Perfected

Ferrari’s retractable hard top (RHT) transforms the 849 Testarossa Spider seamlessly between berlinetta and spider, opening or closing in just 14 seconds at speeds of up to 45 km/h. The cabin experience has been engineered for maximum comfort, with a revolutionary wind catcher behind the seats minimising turbulence, ensuring that the thrill of open-air driving is never compromised. Whether on winding roads or the straights of a racetrack, this Ferrari offers an unparalleled connection to the surroundings and heightened sensory engagement.

Engineering Excellence: The Heart of the Spider

At the core of the 849 Testarossa Spider lies the twin-turbo V8, delivering 830 cv through a thoroughly re-engineered architecture. Every component—from turbochargers to exhaust manifolds—has been refined, increasing maximum power by 50 cv while maintaining the car’s weight. The largest turbo ever fitted to a Ferrari production car, enhanced with low-friction F80-derived bearings, ensures responsiveness and minimized lag. Titanium fasteners, Inconel® exhaust manifolds, and other advanced materials reduce weight and improve performance, while a hybrid system contributes 220 cv via three electric motors—two at the front, one at the rear—enabling on-demand four-wheel drive and torque vectoring.

Ferrari’s engineers have also prioritised sustainability, integrating recycled aluminium alloys in engine castings to cut CO₂ emissions by up to 0.4 tonnes per vehicle.

Mastery in Dynamics

The 849 Testarossa Spider sets a new benchmark in Ferrari handling. The car’s electronic controls, including ABS Evo and the advanced Ferrari Integrated Vehicle Estimator (FIVE), provide real-time digital twin analysis, enhancing traction, braking, and e4WD delivery for precision that is repeatable across every drive. A completely revised suspension and tyre set-up—co-developed with Michelin, Pirelli, and Bridgestone—ensure maximum grip, lateral acceleration, and ride consistency, while new aerodynamics increase downforce to 415 kg at 250 km/h, a 25 kg improvement over the SF90 Spider.

The Assetto Fiorano package further elevates the driving experience with weight reductions of around 30 kg, carbon-fibre components, advanced suspension tuning, and bespoke aerodynamics that triple vertical downforce at the rear without penalising drag.

Aerodynamic Innovation

The 849 Testarossa Spider is a masterclass in aerodynamic design, blending function and aesthetics. Inspired by 1970s Sports Prototypes, its sharp geometric lines, twin-tail rear, and active spoiler system deliver unparalleled stability and airflow management. The innovative wind stop behind the seats, integrated ducting, and optimised air intakes all contribute to improved comfort and cooling, while front and rear underbody enhancements increase downforce and reduce drag.

Cooling systems have been meticulously upgraded: radiators are 15–19% larger, side intercoolers have been re-angled, and brake airflow is maximised to cope with the increased performance of the hybrid powertrain.

Iconic Styling, Ergonomic Luxury

Ferrari’s Styling Centre, led by Flavio Manzoni, has reinterpreted the V8 mid-rear berlinetta spider with a focus on architectural precision and futuristic elegance. The double-tail design, sculpted door flanks, and bridge-like front fascia underscore both aerodynamics and identity, while interior design fuses the berlinetta layout with single-seater ergonomics. The floating dashboard, central sail motifs, and F80-inspired gear-change gate enhance usability, with Alcantara and carbon-fibre options providing bespoke comfort.

The 849 Testarossa Spider also introduces new personalisation options, including Rosso Fiammante and Giallo Ambra exterior colours, Giallo Siena Alcantara trim, and fully customisable forged wheels.

Performance Meets Sustainability

The plug-in hybrid system allows for up to 25 km of electric-only driving, while the full powertrain offers record-setting acceleration: 0–100 km/h in under 2.3 seconds, 0–200 km/h in 6.5 seconds, and a top speed exceeding 330 km/h. The combination of lightweight construction, hybrid torque delivery, and enhanced aerodynamics yields the best power-to-weight ratio ever achieved in a Ferrari range model.

Unmatched Client Care

Ferrari continues its tradition of excellence with a seven-year maintenance programme, including coverage for hybrid components and optional extended warranties. Clients can ensure peak performance and peace of mind through MyFerrari Connect and a network of official dealerships trained to the highest standards.

The Return of a Legend

The 849 Testarossa Spider is more than a car—it is the embodiment of Ferrari’s past, present, and future. By merging historic inspiration with technological innovation, it delivers an intoxicating mix of performance, luxury, and driving pleasure. For the discerning Ferrari client, it represents the pinnacle of open-top V8 berlinetta experience: a car that is as exhilarating en plein air as it is in the pursuit of absolute speed.
