Milton Keynes, 26 November 2024 – The CUPRA Terramar is a beacon of innovation, turning heads not just with its bold design but with its state-of-the-art lighting technology. Its striking three-triangle light signature makes it instantly recognisable, but what truly sets this SUV apart is the groundbreaking engineering behind its Matrix LED Ultra headlights. With 25,000 pixels of high-definition brilliance, these headlights offer unparalleled adaptability and safety, ensuring the CUPRA Terramar doesn’t just light up the road—it redefines how we see it.
Precision Lighting for Modern Roads
At the heart of the CUPRA Terramar’s headlights is a breakthrough in precision: the Glare-free High Beam function. This innovative feature ensures maximum visibility while safeguarding other road users from dazzling glare.
“Our technology works with millimetre precision,” says Maite París, Head of Headlight Development at CUPRA. “The LEDs are divided into twelve independent segments, which intelligently switch off and on based on the driving environment.”
The system activates from speeds of 30 km/h and above, automatically shielding oncoming vehicles while keeping the surrounding areas well-lit. This seamless adaptation not only enhances visibility but also elevates road safety standards, offering drivers confidence in even the darkest conditions.
Enhanced Safety Through Intelligent Design
The Matrix LED Ultra headlights are more than just a light source—they’re a driver’s companion for safe and intuitive navigation. Equipped with advanced low-beam functions, the headlights are designed to adapt to every scenario:
- Lane Light Basic Function: This feature focuses extra light on your lane, following the contours of the road for improved night driving clarity, particularly on multi-lane highways.
- Lane Line Indicator Function: Synchronised with the indicator signals, this function projects a stronger light line on the side where a lane change is indicated, ensuring other drivers are clearly aware of your intentions.
- Lane Change Assist: In coordination with the vehicle’s Side Assist, this feature dims a line of light on the side where another vehicle is detected, warning the driver that a lane change isn’t safe.
“By combining these functions, the Terramar’s headlights provide a new level of driver support,” explains Magnolia Paredes, Head of Lighting Electronic Development at CUPRA.

Ready for Any Driving Condition
The CUPRA Terramar doesn’t stop at providing exceptional visibility; its lighting innovations are designed to handle a wide range of driving conditions and scenarios:
- Coming/Leaving Home Ceremonies: These features add a touch of sophistication, projecting animations onto the ground when the doors are opened or closed.
- Orientation Light Basic Function: Lines are displayed on the ground corresponding to the vehicle’s width, aiding drivers in navigating narrow roads with ease.
- Hazard Warning: When temperatures drop below 4ºC and the car exceeds 65 km/h, the headlights project a snowflake symbol onto the road to warn of icy conditions, complemented by a cluster alert.
Lighting the Way for Future Models
The CUPRA Terramar’s lighting technology sets a benchmark for the brand’s future models. Its advanced headlight system will soon be introduced in the new CUPRA Leon and Formentor, ensuring these innovations reach an even broader audience of drivers.
“With the CUPRA Terramar, we’re not just offering a car; we’re delivering a driving experience that’s safer, smarter, and more connected to the road than ever before,” says Magnolia.
By seamlessly blending design and technology, the CUPRA Terramar doesn’t just lead the way—it lights it up with precision and brilliance.
