Hampson Auctions is set to captivate automotive enthusiasts with an extraordinary array of classic cars at its prestigious Oulton Park Gold Cup sale, scheduled for July 28th. Among the notable entries are two genuine barn finds: a 1970 Jaguar E-type 4.2-litre 2+2 and its companion, a 1975 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. Adding to the allure are an impeccably restored 1956 Bristol Drophead Coupe, a rare right-hand-drive Ferrari 308 GTB ‘Vetroresina,’ and a stunning 1978 Maserati Merak SS.
Managing Director Zach Hamilton had a delightful time uncovering the two barn treasures. The E-type Series 2, untouched since 1986, was initially acquired by the vendor’s late husband as a self-gift for his 21st birthday in the mid-1970s. Its use came to a halt after a theft attempt outside Woolworths led to its long-term storage. The 1975 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow joined the Jaguar a few years later, both now requiring full restorations. Offered without reserve, these vehicles present an exceptional opportunity for dedicated restorers.
In stark contrast to the barn finds, the 1956 Bristol 405 Drophead Coupe stands out with its recent top-tier, bare-metal restoration by Abbotts of Farnham. Described by the vendor as a potential show-winner, this classic beauty comes with its original toolkit and carries an estimate of £160,000-£180,000.

The 1978 Maserati Merak SS is a true gem. Initially delivered to an American owner, it graced New York streets for years before finding a place in a museum from 2001 to 2017, which accounts for its impressively low mileage of just 29,000 miles. Now in the UK, this left-hand-drive marvel retains its original 1970s Blaupunkt cassette player and features newly installed black wool carpets, valued at a four-figure sum. It is estimated to fetch between £55,000 and £65,000.
Another highlight is the 1976 Ferrari 308 GTB ‘Vetroresina,’ one of only 154 right-hand-drive models, with an estimated value of £90,000 – £110,000. The auction also features a pristine 1991 Ferrari Testarossa (£80,000-£100,000) and a meticulously maintained 1975 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4. The Dino, cherished by its engineer owner for over two decades, is offered without reserve.
Other notable no-reserve lots include a 1973 BMW 2002 Tii adorned in 1970s BMW Motorsport livery, a charming 1933 Austin 10/4 Saloon, a charismatic 1991 Nissan Figaro, and a 1954 Rolls-Royce Silver Dawn, complete with the cherished ‘PGH 2’ registration number.
Hampson Auctions’ Oulton Park Gold Cup sale promises to be a spectacular event for collectors and enthusiasts alike, featuring an eclectic mix of restoration projects and impeccably maintained classics.
