KOEDOESKOP, South Africa, June 24, 2024 – The Neil Woolridge Motorsport (NWM) Ford Rally-Raid Team displayed remarkable determination and skill at the TGRSA Safari 1000, Round 3 of the South African Rally-Raid Championship. Despite facing a grueling three-day marathon from June 21 to 23, the team’s EcoBoost V6-powered Ford Rangers powered through to secure impressive finishes, with Lance Woolridge and Kenny Gilbert (#234) clinching a hard-fought second place overall.

Lance Woolridge and Kenny Gilbert delivered a standout performance, battling fiercely throughout the event to claim their first podium of the season. Their relentless pursuit saw them challenging the leaders, Henk Lategan and Brett Cummings, ultimately finishing as runners-up. Meanwhile, reigning champions Gareth Woolridge and Boyd Dreyer (#200) showcased their resilience by recovering from technical setbacks on the second day, including a driveshaft failure and electronic sensor issues, to secure a commendable fourth place overall.

The TGRSA Safari 1000, spanning a challenging 1,000km course around Koedoeskop near Thabazimbi, Limpopo Province, tested both the endurance of the teams and the capabilities of their vehicles. The route traversed diverse terrains from fast farmlands to rugged mountain roads, pushing competitors to their limits.

Neil Woolridge, NWM Ford team principal, commented on the team’s performance, stating, “Securing second and fourth places is a testament to our team’s perseverance. Despite challenges with Gareth’s car on Saturday, the team’s overnight efforts and the exceptional pace shown by both Lance and Kenny reaffirm our competitive edge.”

Reflecting on their race strategy, Lance Woolridge shared, “We faced setbacks early in the race, but our consistent performance and a faultless car allowed us to push for the podium. Although we aimed for the win, we’re pleased with our second-place finish.”

Gareth Woolridge reflected on their journey, saying, “Starting from the back after a puncture in qualifying was tough, but overcoming mechanical issues and setting competitive times on the final day was rewarding. Fourth place after such a challenging start is a testament to the team’s determination.”

In addition to the team’s success, the NWM-supported privateer duo of Wors Prinsloo and Andre Vermeulen (#241) achieved a notable eighth place overall and secured victory in the Road to Dakar Challenge. Their performance earned them a coveted entry to the renowned Dakar Rally, marking a significant achievement for the team and their newly upgraded NWM Ranger.

Looking ahead, the NWM Ford Rally-Raid Team prepares for the next challenge in Parys, Free State, where they will compete in two back-to-back races on August 16 and 17, 2024.
