California Welcomes The First Kalmar 7 97 Built For North America

The highly anticipated arrival of the first KALMAR Automotive 7-97 tailored for the North American market has finally come to fruition, as the impressive vehicle touches down in California. This remarkable feat was commissioned by KALMAR Automotive’s US representative, Canepa, under the guidance of the renowned automotive enthusiast, Bruce Canepa.

The 7-97 ‘C1’, named in honor of Canepa, stands as the most extraordinary iteration to date. It boasts the cutting-edge ‘Triple 4’ engine specification, featuring a formidable 4.0-litre engine that delivers over 400 horsepower and 400 Nm of torque. This model also includes all-wheel drive, a front axle lift system, and a state-of-the-art ceramic braking system, ensuring unparalleled performance and handling.

Each KALMAR Automotive 7-97 pays homage to the original Porsche 911 ST of the 1970s, seamlessly blending the allure of classic design with modern sports car capabilities. Crafted with precision, these vehicles feature autoclave carbon body panels, merging nostalgic aesthetics with contemporary engineering.

A Landmark Arrival in the USA

On June 11, 2024, KALMAR Automotive, a distinguished restorer and enhancer of bespoke sports cars and adventure vehicles, delivered its first 7-97 to the United States. This exclusive KALMAR 7-97 Classic is now available at Canepa, a premier collector car specialist in California.

The latest addition to the KALMAR Automotive lineup exemplifies their unparalleled approach to bespoke automotive craftsmanship. The ‘C1’, derived from the 993 Porsche platform, showcases a series of desirable engineering upgrades, making it the most uncompromising 7-97 to date.

The re-engineered body of the C1 benefits from the removal of the donor 911’s rain gutters, coupled with a reimagined decklid and KALMAR’s unique bonded glass solution, significantly reducing lift, drag, and wind noise.

Showcasing Unmatched Engineering Excellence

The ‘C1’ model is designed to highlight the full spectrum of KALMAR Automotive’s capabilities. On display at Canepa’s Scotts Valley headquarters, it serves as a testament to the brand’s commitment to quality and innovation. Additional versions of the 7-97 are expected to follow in the coming months, expanding KALMAR Automotive’s presence in North America.

Built on a 993-generation platform, the all-wheel-drive C1 features the top-tier ‘Triple 4’ specification. This includes a 4.0-litre engine producing 401 horsepower and 426 Nm of torque, incorporating advanced components such as a 997 GT3 4.0-litre crankshaft, drive-by-wire individual throttle bodies, mechanical lifters, and a dual oil cooler system.

The vehicle is also equipped with adaptive active suspension, a multi-link rear axle, a six-speed gearbox, and ultra-lightweight lithium batteries. Optional features such as a traction control system with Sport mode, a lightweight ceramic braking system, and a front axle lift system further enhance drivability and dynamic performance.

A Bespoke Interior with Modern Conveniences

Inside, the 7-97 ‘C1’ is outfitted with a luxurious full leather interior and supportive Recaro sports seats. Modern amenities such as remote central locking, a concealed Bluetooth audio system, and rain-sensing wipers come standard. The specially designed key includes buttons to operate the front luggage compartment and rear deck lid, adding a touch of modern convenience to the classic experience.

A Fusion of Classic and Modern Design

Maintaining the iconic silhouette of the 911, every 7-97 is developed in-house with unique lightweight carbon fiber body panels. The C1 model, in particular, balances weight perfectly, with the rear-wheel-drive version weighing approximately 1150 kg (2500 pounds) and the all-wheel-drive variant at just under 1215 kg (2675 pounds).

A Promising Partnership

The arrival of the 7-97 C1 in the United States signifies a burgeoning partnership between KALMAR Automotive and Canepa. This collaboration, driven by Bruce Canepa’s passion and meticulous attention to detail, has propelled KALMAR Automotive to new heights.

Jan Kalmar, founder of KALMAR Automotive, expressed his excitement, stating, “The engaging, analogue yet modern feel of the 7-97 C1 is the perfect companion for exploring America’s West Coast. I can already picture this car carving through canyon roads and charging across Northern California’s mountain routes.”

Bruce Canepa added, “Timeless design in every detail, uncompromised quality in every component and surface, and performance and drivability for those seeking the ultimate air-cooled driving experience. The 7-97 C1 embodies the essence of KALMAR Automotive.”

With a production cap of no more than 12 units per year, each KALMAR 7-97 is a unique creation, tailored to the specific desires of its owner. Canepa Group will serve as KALMAR Automotive’s sole representative in North America, part of a growing global network of dealers.

The KALMAR Automotive 7-97 C1 is currently on display at Canepa’s Scotts Valley headquarters, available for viewing by appointment. This remarkable vehicle marks the beginning of a promising chapter for KALMAR Automotive in the United States.
