As anticipation builds ahead of the IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, BMW reveals the first production-ready glimpse of its Neue Klasse future – the all-new BMW iX3. Representing a paradigm shift in electric mobility, driving dynamics and digital intelligence, the iX3 is more than just a new model; it is a declaration of intent from one of the world’s most iconic marques. And as prototypes undergo final testing in Miramas, France, it’s clear that the next generation of BMW has arrived.

From the inside out, the iX3 showcases fundamental breakthroughs in performance, charging, user interface and automation. Built on the Neue Klasse architecture and rolling off the brand-new Debrecen plant in Hungary later this year, the iX3 spearheads a revolution that will shape the future of every BMW vehicle to come.

A New Standard in Range and Charging

Leading the charge – quite literally – is the Gen6 eDrive powertrain. With a range of up to 800km (WLTP) and a charging capacity of up to 400kW, the iX3 redefines what’s possible in electric mobility. In just 10 minutes at a fast charger, drivers can gain over 350km of range – a new benchmark made possible by cutting-edge 800V battery architecture and next-generation cylindrical cells boasting 20% more energy density.

Yet, BMW’s progress is not just about raw numbers. Smart integration lies at the heart of the Neue Klasse philosophy. The iX3 introduces an intelligent charging flap that opens automatically when approaching learned or familiar charging stations – one of several AI-driven touches that transform everyday usability.

And with bidirectional charging capability, the iX3 becomes more than a car – it’s a mobile power hub. Whether supplying household appliances (Vehicle-to-Load), storing solar energy (Vehicle-to-Home), or supporting the grid (Vehicle-to-Grid), BMW’s new SAV contributes actively to the energy transition.

A Revolution in Driver Orientation: BMW Panoramic iDrive

The driving experience in the iX3 is orchestrated through BMW Panoramic iDrive, a revolutionary new interface built for maximum clarity, minimal distraction and intuitive control. Projecting vital driving information across a black surface from A-pillar to A-pillar, BMW Panoramic Vision keeps data precisely in the driver’s field of vision.

This immersive display ecosystem is complemented by:

  • An optional 3D Head-Up Display for depth-enhanced navigation;
  • A floating central display with matrix backlight technology;
  • A shy-tech multifunction steering wheel, where controls illuminate and respond with haptic feedback only when needed.

Running on BMW Operating System X, the Panoramic iDrive balances physical control with digital flexibility – a bold reinterpretation of BMW’s long-standing mantra: Hands on the Wheel, Eyes on the Road.

“Heart of Joy”: The New Pulse of Performance

The iX3 doesn’t just drive – it responds, adapts and elevates. At its core lies the “Heart of Joy”, an all-new high-speed control computer paired with the BMW Dynamic Performance Control software stack. This “superbrain” interprets inputs and adjusts the powertrain, braking, and steering in real time – ten times faster than previous systems.

The result is a level of dynamic responsiveness that feels not only intuitive but deeply engaging. Recuperation down to a standstill becomes seamless and natural, and in most situations, drivers won’t even need to touch the friction brakes – delivering near-silent deceleration without jolts or delay.

Cornering becomes more stable, directional input more precise, and power delivery more harmonious. In true BMW spirit, the iX3 transforms the act of driving into an art form – one reimagined for the electric era.

The Superbrains of Automation

With the iX3, BMW takes its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to extraordinary new heights. The vehicle’s four high-performance computers, described collectively as the “Superbrains,” enable next-level functionality for both automated driving and parking.

This next-gen ADAS architecture merges traditional rule-based systems with AI learning. For drivers, this means more confidence in demanding environments, from navigating tight city corners to breezing down motorways hands-free with extended Motorway Assistant.

Features like Safe Exit, Road Priority Warning, and an improved Assisted View are complemented by new symbiotic control logic – including a world-first cooperative braking system. Here, light braking input adjusts the system’s behaviour without overriding it, maintaining smooth operation and confidence-inspiring control.

Even parking benefits from AI-enhanced intelligence: the system selects the optimal method for the environment, plans the manoeuvre, and executes it – all with seamless visual support.

Intelligence, Evolution, and Design for Tomorrow

The iX3 is not just smarter – it’s continually getting smarter. Thanks to BMW’s new zonal vehicle electrical system, the entire car is update-compatible and cloud-connected. Over-the-air enhancements will ensure that each iX3 remains at the forefront of intelligence and safety, long after it leaves the showroom.

And behind every function lies a patent-worthy innovation. From the projection tech in Panoramic Vision, to battery management systems, to the new electric motor architecture – the iX3 is underpinned by proprietary excellence developed in-house at BMW.

A Glimpse Into the Neue Klasse Future

As the first production model of BMW’s Neue Klasse era, the iX3 is not just the next step – it is a quantum leap. Every element – from range to responsiveness, from digital engagement to energy intelligence – embodies the future BMW wants to build: sustainable, exhilarating, and intuitively human.

Come September 2025, the world will see the vision realised at IAA Mobility in Munich. And by year-end, it will be more than a vision. It will be reality – rolling out of Debrecen and into a new era of sheer driving pleasure.
