Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles’ Driver-Assist Technology Prevents Accidents and Reduces Costs for UK Van Drivers
Milton Keynes, UK (4 June 2024) – According to a recent study by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, 45% of UK van drivers report that advanced driver-assistance technology (ADAS) has prevented at least one accident in the past year.

The research highlights that parking and reversing incidents are the most frequent among UK van drivers, with parking-related accidents accounting for 27% and reversing incidents for 18% of all accidents. Additionally, the study found that the average cost of van repairs has increased, reaching £534.25 per incident, up from £525.63 the previous year.

In an environment where nearly half (48%) of van drivers cite the cost of running a business as a major concern, the rising repair expenses underscore the significant impact even minor accidents can have on operations.

To mitigate these challenges, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles offers a suite of innovative driver-assistance systems designed to enhance safety and reduce repair costs. Given that parking and reversing account for a significant portion of accidents, Volkswagen’s Park Assist technology helps minimize the risk of collisions during parking, while an optional rear-view camera aids drivers in navigating while reversing.

Moreover, Volkswagen’s Brake Assist technology, standard across its van range, significantly reduces stopping distances in emergencies by detecting traffic and automatically applying the brakes when necessary.

Alice Axtell, Product Marketing Manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, stated: “With repair costs on the rise, the impact of accidents on the daily operations of businesses is considerable. That’s why our vehicles are equipped with a range of advanced driver-assistance technologies, many as standard, to help drivers avoid incidents that could sideline their vans and disrupt business continuity.”
