Kia Slovakia Celebrates Five Million Units

Kia has proudly announced the production of its five millionth vehicle at its plant near Žilina, Slovakia, marking a significant milestone in the company’s 20-year presence in the region. As one of the largest employers, manufacturers, exporters, and taxpayers in Slovakia, Kia’s continuous success is a testament to its commitment to consistency and innovation. The commemorative five millionth vehicle is a hybrid Sportage, underscoring the model’s popularity among Slovak customers.

Since Kia began operations in Teplicka nad Vahom, Žilina, more than 2.5 million Sportage models have been produced, closely followed by over 2.1 million Ceed models. These figures highlight the enduring appeal and quality of Kia’s vehicles.

“We have tripled our share of the European car market in the last two decades thanks to the presence of our plant in Europe,” remarked Marc Hedrich, President of Kia Europe, during the local ceremony. “The tremendous success of the Ceed and Sportage models produced in Slovakia is truly admirable, becoming best-selling models across Europe several times, which is proof of the quality Kia has managed to achieve.”

Kia Slovakia currently produces nearly 1,500 Ceed and Sportage vehicles daily, efficiently transported by train and truck to customers across Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, and Spain. The company remains committed to investing in new technologies to enhance production efficiency, ensure employee safety, reduce environmental impact, and guarantee maximum customer satisfaction. Established in 2013, Kia’s foundation supports projects in education, health, environment, and inclusion, reflecting the company’s dedication to community development.

Employing approximately 3,800 people with an impressive average employee retention rate of 11 years, Kia Slovakia is a stable and strategic partner in the region. Notably, over 1,300 employees have been with the company for more than 15 years. As the only car manufacturer in Slovakia with its own certified emission laboratory and engine production facility, Kia boasts highly qualified engineers skilled in both assembly and machining operations, positioning the company at the forefront of innovation and sustainability in the European automotive industry.

The expertise and dedication of Kia’s workforce, combined with state-of-the-art facilities, have enabled the company to meet the evolving demands of European customers. The production team’s technical prowess is complemented by their commitment to environmental stewardship. Over the past decade, Kia has significantly reduced its ecological footprint per produced car, achieving a 16% reduction in electricity usage, a 35% decrease in water consumption through the reutilization of recycled water, and a 19% reduction in CO2 emissions. Furthermore, the Kia factory in Žilina operates entirely on renewable energy.

“I would like to thank all of our employees, suppliers, and partners for their efforts and dedication: thanks to their hard work, we have managed to produce five million vehicles in Teplicka nad Vahom,” expressed Geon Won Shin, President and CEO of Kia Slovakia.
