Trieste, April 28, 2024 – The fourth edition of the esteemed Coppa delle Alpi by 1000 Miglia is set to commence this afternoon in Trieste. The event kicks off with administrative and technical checks in the historic Piazza Unità d’Italia. The race, dedicated to classic cars manufactured before 1990, will officially start tomorrow morning. Participants will undertake 90 Time Trials, covering a challenging 1600 kilometers.
This grand 5-leg tour will traverse the majestic Alpine range from east to west, starting in Trieste and concluding in Courmayeur. It will navigate the landscapes of seven countries, offering a grand journey, “Il Grande Viaggio Alpino,” which goes beyond mere racing. This initiative aims to reflect on the socio-economic, anthropological, and environmental shifts occurring within the Alpine region.
To ensure an engaging and thoughtful experience, the number of participating cars has been limited to 30, with an additional eight vehicles reserved for experts in various fields. These experts will interact with local institutions and identify best practices, facilitating a rich exchange of ideas and experiences. The collective insights gathered during the journey will be showcased at a conference on Saturday, May 4, in Courmayeur.
The route includes several stops where discussions on key topics will take place:
- Kranjska Gora, Slovenia: Focus on sustainable tourism initiatives.
- Cortina’s Rifugio Faloria (alt. 2100m): A discourse on hosting accessible and sustainable Olympic events.
- Messner Museum, Ripa: A lunch discussion with Reinhold Messner about his projects and experiences.
