Excitement is building across the country as BAIC South Africa gears up for the official launch of the all-new BAIC B30 SUV in November 2025. First unveiled to the public at the 2025 Festival of Motoring at Kyalami, the B30 marks a pivotal step for BAIC — a brand rapidly evolving from newcomer to serious contender in South Africa’s competitive SUV market. Positioned between the rugged B40 Plus and the stylish X55 Plus, the new B30 introduces a fresh design language and advanced hybrid technology that promises to redefine what “versatile adventure” means for South African motorists.

From Kyalami to the Nation: A Festival Highlight

BAIC made waves at this year’s Festival of Motoring, where the B30 drew crowds with its striking design and impressive tech package. Thousands of visitors explored the SUV at BAIC’s stand and test track, where it was showcased alongside the B40 Plus Honor Edition and X55 Plus.

“The Festival of Motoring was the perfect platform to reveal what the BAIC brand represents today,” said Ameena Hassan, Brand & PR Manager at BAIC South Africa. “The B30 embodies the future of versatile mobility — a vehicle that gives drivers more power, more technology, and more possibilities.”

Designed for Every Journey

The B30’s design strikes a confident balance between urban sophistication and rugged adventure. Its muscular stance, bold grille, and sleek LED lighting speak to strength and refinement, while a 215 mm ground clearance and short overhangs provide sure-footed agility across diverse terrain.

Inside, the B30 exudes comfort and technology in equal measure. The spacious cabin features flat-folding front seats, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof that enhances the sense of openness. A 14.6-inch infotainment display with full smartphone integration anchors the high-tech dashboard, complemented by a digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and intelligent voice control.

Safety and assistance are equally advanced, with BAIC’s latest ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) incorporating adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot detection, hill descent control, and a 360-degree camera system — features that make every drive more confident and controlled.

Dynamic Turbocharged Power

The petrol-powered B30 LV2 and LV3 deliver spirited performance through a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 138 kW and 305 Nm of torque, paired to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The result is a refined yet responsive drive, with selectable Comfort, Sport, and Eco modes adapting the SUV’s character to match the road ahead.

Fuel efficiency remains a strong point, averaging between 6.8 and 7.2 L/100 km, while the LV3 adds luxury features such as dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and a full suite of driver-assist systems.

Segment-Leading Hybrid Power and Control

For those seeking the next step in performance and sustainability, the B30 HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) range represents the pinnacle of BAIC’s engineering. This self-charging hybrid combines the 1.5-litre turbo engine with an electric motor and regenerative braking, offering seamless transitions between petrol and electric power.

The flagship B30 HEV AWD delivers a remarkable 301 kW and 685 Nm of combined torque, making it one of the most powerful hybrids in its class. Real-time all-wheel drive, a Terrain Management System, and fuel economy as low as 5.85 L/100 km ensure that capability and efficiency go hand in hand — whether tackling mountain passes or city streets.

Proven Globally, Perfected for South Africa

Having already launched in markets including China, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Egypt, Angola, and Panama, the B30 has been praised for its build quality, hybrid innovation, and adaptable performance. Now, South Africa becomes the first right-hand-drive market to receive the model — a major milestone that underlines BAIC’s confidence in local demand and its commitment to long-term growth in the region.

A Range Built for Every Driver

At launch, the B30 will be offered in four variants, catering to a wide range of preferences:

  • B30 LV2 / LV3 – 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine (138 kW / 305 Nm), 7-speed DCT, FWD
  • B30 LV4 HEV – 1.5-litre turbo hybrid (180 kW combined output), front-wheel drive
  • B30 LV5 HEV AWD – 1.5-litre turbo hybrid (301 kW / 685 Nm), all-wheel drive

Pricing will start from around R550,000, with the flagship hybrid AWD model expected at approximately R700,000 — positioning the B30 as an attainable yet aspirational option in the growing hybrid SUV space.

Built for South African Conditions

Whether navigating urban traffic, open highways, or gravel backroads, the B30 is engineered to handle South Africa’s diversity with ease. Suspension tuning optimises ride comfort and control, while hybrid models deliver longer range and lower fuel costs.

Adding to its local relevance, BAIC confirmed that local assembly at the Coega facility in Gqeberha will follow the national launch — a move that reinforces the brand’s commitment to local production, job creation, and sustainable investment.
